Meet Beans. He is a 6 year old guy who is very shy.  He was found as a stray and then adopted from the Humane Society.  His owner took good care of him as best they could but due to some personal medical issues was not able to keep him.  He was surrendered to us here and he was scared and cautious when he met me.  After a few days he started to trust me and now follows me everywhere.  He is very cautious about anyone who he meets so will not be a good candidate for homes with children or lots of visiting.

Beans is very friendly with other dogs. Non possessive, non competitive. He isn't used to being leashed.

Beans has moderate separation anxiety. He can handle occasionally being left alone, and he's comfortable in a crate, but when you leave his line of sight he will make a fuss. When it comes to strangers, beans is guarded but he can be challenged. He should be in a home that will usually be calm and quiet.

With his people, Beans is a goofball and an attention sponge. Just give him a couple days and you'll see exactly what I mean.

We are looking for a home that is fairly calm and quiet. He would do well in a home with other dogs as it will help him build confidence.  We can see him gaining confidence as time passes but it will be a process.

update: beans is having a dental procedure Thursday 2/7 and should be done recovering about a week later.

Quirks in a crate: beans will readily go in his crate but if you close the door and walk away he gets unhappy! If he's alone in a crate for more than a few hours he'll leave a mess; it's tied to his anxiety. I have best luck leaving him alone when he has access to a dog door and very limited access to the house (I penned the area around the dog door). Bear this in mind when choosing Beans, he's not ready to be given full unsupervised access to your immaculate home.
